We started our Easter festivities on Saturday, we had a lot planned for the kids but the kids had a lot planned for us (grumpy kids all day long) so we canceled half of our plans and hung around the house for most of the day.
Saturday was suppose to look like this:
Saturday morning: Easter Baskets
Saturday morning: Helicopter Egg Drop
Saturday afternoon: Egg hunt
Saturday evening: Church at 5pm
(we were going to go to our church's 5pm service, to make room for the CEO's on Sunday
and Sunday we were planning on helping out with our church's new campus launch.)
Saturday actually looked like this:
Saturday morning: Easter baskets.
Saturday morning: grumpiest kids on earth
Saturday afternoon: still grumpy
Saturday afternoon: Egg hunt
Saturday evening: Early bedtime.
We choose to do our Easter baskets on the Saturday before Easter so that on Easter Sunday (hopefully) the kids are thinking all day long about the true meaning of Easter and not what they had inside their baskets on Easter Sunday. At this point Aveline and maybe Oliver don't understand the holiday at all but this is something we always want to do with our kids, celebrate with baskets and hunts the day before and spend Easter day at church, with our friends and our families.
Here are their baskets.
Jared and I didn't buy half of this stuff.
Our kids have an abundance of grandparents, friends and family that
love them and find it necessary to spoil the stuffins out of them. :)
Aveline's loot.
Leonidas' loot.
Oliver's loot.
Nidas was so surprised. :)
Later in the day we decided to go ahead with our egg hunt.
We wanted to have it some place that the kids really enjoy so we chose to have it by the retired airplanes here on base. This is Oliver's favorite plane so we knew this was where we wanted the hunt to be. Leonidas helped me pick out the candy for the eggs, since they don't really get candy I wanted to make sure it was something they'd like. Nidas chose chocolate, I didn't even think about the chocolate inside those eggs sitting in the hot sun, it was nearly 90 on Saturday so I had to stick with hiding the eggs in the shade to make sure nothing melted .. :)
clearly Leonidas is too big for my shenanigans these days
if you were wondering .. yes, we're still using cloth diapers for Aveline :)
Easter Sunday
Jared and I were overly excited to get back in to the swing of ministry inside the walls of a church. As soon as we heard our church was launching a new West Campus (GO WEST!) we knew we'd want to get as involved in it as possible. We signed up to help with children's ministry, I had been meeting and e-mailing back and forth with the children's pastor, making sure we had everything lined up for our launch service on Easter Sunday (I was in no way a part of the head group(s) of people that planned, just a volunteer). There was an Easter egg hunt at 10am followed by service at 11am. We arrived at the church (which is being held in a retreat center right now) at 9 am, Oliver and Leonidas helped us hide eggs in an open field, they had a blast! Jared and I received our volunteer badges ..
Looks like I need to update my name in my e-mail address...since my name said Kara Carney she just assumed that was Jared's last name also .. HA! Jared wasn't really upset and we actually didn't even tell her the name was wrong, we'll save that for another day. :)
After the boys helped pass out easter bags for all of the children it was time to start hunting .. away they went. :)
Leonidas had never had or even seen a starburst before, he was captivated by it and stopped hunting for eggs, all he wanted was to see what it tasted like. :)
Oliver and Leonidas picked out their ties. Oliver wears a tie almost every day and usually it's with a t-shirt. :)
After lunch we filled up the water table, put swimming gear and sunscreen on the kiddos and we played outside for nearly the rest of the day. :)
We ended our Easter Sunday just like we end every Sunday night in our house ..
pizza movie night
